The aim of the cooperation among Finnish development NGOs is to increase their knowledge on global sexual health and rights and to join forces especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Ways of working together is to organize seminars and training courses and to arrange joint campaigns and events.

HIV/ AIDS Network

Väestöliitto and STAKES, the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health, founded the HIV/AIDS Network in 2001. Its purpose is to bring together organisations working with HIV/AIDS, to share information on national and international experiences related to HIV/AIDS and to provide information on HIV/AIDS in Finland. The Network’s activities are coordinated by the Helsinki Deaconess Institute.

World AIDS Day Committee

A Committee including various Finnish NGOs is responsible for planning and carrying out the World AIDS Day events. Väestöliitto has been a member of this Committee since 2002.

Cooperation with FimSIC

Väestöliitto works together with the Finnish Medical Students’ International Committee, FiMSIC, to increase awareness among Finnish students on sexual health and rights and HIV/AIDS. They arrange joint training sessions and lectures on sexual health and rights for medical students, students in the health care field and senior secondary school students, produce material and work together with the AdVoice!Youth Group.


Väestöliitto is a member of the EuroNGOs, which is a network of European NGOs working in the field of sexual health and rights. EuroNGOs does advocacy work on global sexual health land rights in their respecitve countries and work together as a consortium to jointly promote these issues on European and international level.

In addition to these, Väestöliitto also works closely with the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, the International Planned Parenthood Federation IPPF and other international NGOs and networks.
