Väestöliitto collaborates with Kynnys ry (Threshold Association) and Central Asian Countries' Disabled Women's Organization SHYRAK to empower and improve the self esteem of disabled women in the Central Asian Republics (including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan).

A central goal of the project is to increase the disabled girls'and women's knowledge of their rights, especially reproductive rights. Another aim is to increase the knowledge of these women and girls's family members and officials working with them. To achieve these goals a series of training sessions and peer activities will be conducted, in addition to the publication of a series of materials dealing with disability, sexuality and reproductive rights.

The project is founded on Kynnys ry's previous experience of development co-operation projects in the area, which have focused on disabled women and their networking. The project is funded by the Foreign Ministry of Finland.
