The prerequisite for successful treatment is a thorough examination of the underlying causes for infertility. It is important to examine both the woman and the man.
In addition to the clinical examination, one of the basic examinations is a semen analysis for evaluating the quality of the sperm. The woman’s menstrual cycle is charted using hormone measurements and ultrasound examinations. The fallopian tubes will also be examined for possible obstructions or disease (for example, using sonosalpingography). Additional examinations that may be needed are a uterine cavity endoscopy (hysteroscopy), a testicular biopsy, a chromosome analysis and a Y-deletion test.
Endoscopic surgery (laparoscopy) is used to detach possible fallopian tube adhesions, treat endometriosis, uterine fibroids and polyps and structural faults. Laparoscopic procedures are carried out in a hospital.
