Men´s Moment

Men’s Moment is a multiprofessional service, supported by RAY - the Slot Machine Association, meant for boys and men and people working with them: professionals, parents and anyone interested in these issues. The aim of Men’s Moment is to improve men’s sexual health, to create models and services that provide support when boys are growing into manhood and to produce and gather together information pertaining to men.

Men’s Moment functions as part of the Family Federation’s Sexual Health Clinic and in close cooperation with other partners in the Family Federation such as Youth Open House and the Family Network, as well as with numerous other organisations and officials.

Men’s Moment was founded in 2001, because boys and men were lacking a place where they could get factual and professional high-quality information about sexual health: about development during puberty, dating and sex.

Even though a sexual health service for young people had been operating at the Sexual Health Clinic for many years already, most of the clients were girls. The reason for this is clear. Boys do not have to contact health care when beginning contraception or because of menstruation. This doesn’t mean that boys and men have no questions about sex and dating - on the contrary.


The need for information has been demonstrated, for example, by the Family Federation’s study published in 2001, by the questions asked by men encountered in schools and in the armed forces and by the experiences gained from the Net Service developed by Men’s Moment. Information aimed at boys and men about sex should preferably be tailored expressly to their needs.

Men’s Moment aims at producing ”masculine” material and services, as versatile as possible, for men of all ages, about sexuality and about controlling aggression, and making these available to as many people as possible.

The sexual health portal Net Service, inaugurated in 2001, contains articles and a question-and-answer service. The net service enables absolute anonymity for all questions, which has been shown to increase the popularity of the service. For those who prefer to read books about these issues, Legopalikoista Leopardikalsareihin (From Legos to Leopard Skin Boxers) and Korkkari (A High Voltage) were published in 2001 and 2004. Men’s Moment has been a promoter and one of the creators of the national sexual health campaigns for secondary schools in 2002 – 2004. In addition, throughout it's existence, personal have held lectures on sexual health, men’s role and family life for students, at school parents’ evenings, and arranged professional training and seminars.
