Stella Vellendi,  Global Development

Our Adviser on Development Cooperation supports Väestöliitto’s development cooperation, which is part of Väestöliitto’s programme to advance sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice (SRHRJ). The programme contributes to the realization of rights of persons experiencing vulnerability, ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights and related services, and integration of SRHRJ into national strategies and programmes. Stella is responsible for Väestöliitto’s projects on preventing sexual and gender-based violence in Malawi and advancing sexual rights of persons with disabilities in Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Tajikistan). In addition, Stella contributes to Väestöliitto’s advocacy work, particularly related to the rights of LGBTIQ+ persons.

Stella holds a MSc degree in African Politics and a BA (Hons) degree in International Development with Politics. Stella has experience in Finnish NGOs as well as the UN system in South Sudan and headquarters. Before joining Väestöliittö, she has supported human rights, development and peace in various parts in Africa and the Middle East as well as in Nepal.
