A child and sexual health
A child’s sexual health includes the opportunity to learn and act according to their age. Children get to know their own bodies and emotions in a safe way and with guidance.
Sexual health is a state of well-being. With a child, it means different things than with a young person or an adult. Close relationships, care and touch strengthen the child’s well-being.
Thus, the child e.g.
- Knows relevant words and norms for intimate areas and reproduction of the body
- Feels free to ask questions
- Knows the most important safety skills and is able to use them
- Can protect their privacy and pass it on to others
- Can seek and get physical intimacy and affection when they want it
- Can act and get joy in friendships
- Can seek help related to their own sexual health
- Feels safe and secure
- Experiences joy and pride over their own body, feelings and thoughts
- Can express emotions of both love and negative feelings
- Does not experience feelings of sexual harassment and violence
