Sexual rights
Sexual rights refer to the rights of every individual to make informed and responsible decisions about their own sexuality. The realization of sexual rights is central to human well-being and balanced life.
Sexuality is a natural part of humanity throughout life. Sexuality includes, for example, sexual development, biological sex, sexual orientation, social gender identity and role, and reproduction. Sexuality can be experienced and expressed in many different ways, including attitudes, values, beliefs, and in relation to oneself and others.
The Family Federation of Finland divides sexual rights into seven categories. All rights also include duty and responsibility. This means that everyone has a duty to respect the rights of others when exercising their own sexual rights. States also have the responsibility to ensure that everyone’s rights are protected by law and that violations of rights are addressed.
