Principles for a Safer Space

All activities and events organized by Väestöliitto are based on the Safer Space Principles, which consider accessibility and inclusivity. The intention is for Väestöliitto to be a safe workplace and for everyone to feel safe participating in Väestöliitto’s activities and events.

By participating in our activities, we kindly request all participants to adhere to these principles.

A safer space provides a supportive and encouraging environment.

Confidentiality and Responsibility
Every individual is responsible for their words and actions. Avoid making assumptions about others. Acknowledge your own position of power in relation to others and act accordingly. 
Listen and Learn
Making mistakes and asking questions are integral to learning and personal development. Fearlessly ask questions and create space for others to grow and learn. Offer constructive feedback. Accept feedback, take it into account and adjust your actions when necessary.
Respect and Give Space
Offer everyone the opportunity to participate and contribute their unique perspectives. However, deliberate offense towards anyone is unacceptable. Respect everyone's right to self-determination and handle issues with sensitivity and respect.
Intervene
If possible, intervene in situations where the principles of safer spaces are being violated. Safer spaces also have designated individuals to whom such incidents can be reported.
