The Kumita campaign distributes condoms to all 14-year olds in Finland through schools. At Kumita, we strive to overthrow myths about condoms and to talk about condoms in a positive tone, emphasizing the sexual rights of each young person and the value of their own body. The campaign emphasizes that it is worth practicing using a condom, even if you are not yet sexually active.
Getting relevant information improves young peoples’ ability to take care of themselves and to avoid risks. Talking about sexuality, sex, or contraception does not predispose to risky behaviors or lead to earlier sexual experiences, but vice versa. That is why we also encourage nurses, health education teachers and parents of young people to talk to young people about sex and contraception.
