José Luis Estévez is a postdoctoral researcher at Väestöliitto. He studies social network effects on fertility dimensions with especial attention to migrants and inter-ethnic families using Finnish register data.

José Luis obtained his PhD from the Institute for Analytical Sociology at Linköping University, Sweden, in 2021. Prior to joining Väestöliitto, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow for the ERC project DISSINET, at Masaryk University, Czech Republic. He has expertise on statistical methods for the analysis of relational data. He has used these methods for the study of gossip in high schools and workplaces, as well as denunciations using inquisitorial records.
